Marble cake is a classic childhood cooking memory. Whether using lurid colours for a psychedelic finish, or just chocolate and vanilla, it's a teatime treat...!!

Ingredients:

1/2 tin (200 grams) condensed milk
200 gms self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla essence
120 gms melted Butter
60 gms Cocoa Powder

For the icing:
200g bar dark chocolate
300ml (½ pint) double cream

How to make marble cake:
  • Sieve the flour, baking powder and soda bi-carbb together.
  • Mix the flour mixture, condensed milk, melted butter, essence and 75 ml. (2 1/2 fl. Oz. ) water and beat well.
  • Mix well till the batter is smooth. Divide this batter into 2 parts.
  • In one portion add cocoa powder.
  • Grease and line a 8 inch baking tin. First pour 1 layer in the tin then the second and continue this process alternatively.
  • Bake this tin in a preheated oven at 180 - 200C for 15 minutes and then reduce the temperature and bake for another 10 minutes or until the cake gets golden on top.
  • Cool the cake and invert it on a dish.
To make the icing:
  • Melt the chocolate in a large bowl over a pan of simmering water. Stir in cream and let icing cool, without stirring too much, before spreading it over the cake with a palette knife. Leave in a cool place to set.
  • Serve.

Good cake recipe. Would probably have benefitted from some moist icing as as its quite a plain sponge, but nice nonetheless. Very pretty too!
